Two water supplying ways with a hydrator

A hydrator is used for wetting the grain with water during feeding process. It  As the gain is mixed with hot water during feeding process, the mash actually already starts from this step. So we call it ‘pre-mash’, a premash speed up the following mash process after feeding; The hydrator avoid the dusty caused by the milled malt particles;

The water inputted/sprayed to the hydrator should be the suitable temperature and it is usually the feeding temperature according to various recipes such as 35℃, or 55℃ etc.
Here are two different plumbings according to the spary water sources:

Transfer water from HLT only
It requires that the hot water in the HLT should be exactly the suitable feeding temperature. After feeding, when we need the step mashing via adding hot water, then we will need wait for some time to heat the hot water from the existing low feeding temperature to next higher suitable mashing temperature.

Mix water from HLT and CLT/city water
City water and hot water come into one tubing (normally is a water blending device) to get the suitable temperature to spray on the hydrator.
Advantage: The water temperature is easier to control with this solution.Besides, it do not require the exact feeding temperature in the HLT,
which means the HLT temperature can be higher at the beginning that will save time for the step mashing.
