Grist cases are cracked grain storage vessels, and key components in beer brewing. Positioned between the grain mill and the brewhouse, the grist case is the intermediary stop for grain after cracking, prior to introduction into the brew kettle. The grist case is one component of the brewery grain handling system which also includes the grain auger, grain mill, and grist hydrator. But which volume grist case is better for my brewery equipment?

To confirm the grist case volume, we have to consider your brewing process. It mainly relates to the maximum malt feeding amount for brewing. In other words, how many malt you will use to brew beer?

As we know, the malt volume is 1.8 times of itself weight, after crushing, the volume can expand to around 2.8 times.
Take 1000L brewing system as example, in your brewing recipes, if the maximum malt feeding amount is 330kg, we would better choose a 950L grist case. It is an ideal situation for any microbreweries.

But for some breweries, there may have height limitations or floor area limitations, it may not enough to fit a big grist case. In that situation, we may need to consider removing grist case or choose smaller one. Then we can increase miller crushing capacity, so crushed malt can feed into brew kettle with less time, or feed into kettle during crushing, rather than into brew kettle by one time after finished crushing.

We supply turnkey solutions. If you are also looking for setting up a micro brewery. I am at your disposal.
