With good design beer brewery equipment, we can get nice beer. While in whole brewing operation, except for brewing, system cleaning is also an important work that we couldn’t ignore. So, today, lets check how to clean each part of complete brewery system.
Part one: Cleaning of beer brewhouse system
Step 1: Rinse tanks and piping systems with tap water (to wash off flushable attachments)
Clean standard:
**The flushed water is clear
**No suspended solids in water
**Water has no peculiar smell
**Water without foam
Step 2: Use 2%-4% caustic solution (NaOH solution) for circulating washing;
At 47-50C, the washing effect doubles for every 7C increase in temperature (meaning that the washing time can be shortened). 100C caustic liquid is the best, but it is dangerous with so high temp, and the heating rate may not keep up.
Step 3: Rinse all the above systems with warm water until clean
Temperature>47℃
The standard of clean is that the pH of the flushed water is neutral or the pH of the water is similar to the pH of the local water (in some areas, the water may always be weakly alkaline)
Pipe cleaning to avoid dead ends, especially some U-shaped bends
Practical tips: wash with hot water, it will have the effect of thermal expansion and contraction on the pipe connections (valves, gaskets), and the leaking pipes will not be seen leaking. To be on the safe side, rinse it again with tap water after washing with hot water to see if there are any leaks. If there is, even adjust it, otherwise, it will be difficult to adjust the leakage when brewing.
Step 4: Tank spare
PS: Even if brewing 6 batches in one day, tanks also need be cleaned well in time, otherwise the interior will not be clean and there will be adhesions, which will reduce the boiling strength
New equipment must be carefully cleaned before use
In the following articles, i will introduce cleaning procedure of other parts included in complete brewing system. For more practical operation skills and customizing beer brewery equipment, please freely to contact me. Cheers!
