What should be noted when using heat exchanger of my brewery equipment

At present, the most commonly used wort cooling unit in beer brewery equipment is plate heat exchanger, which is a closed cooling equipment made by stainless steel and consists of multiple thin plates with grooves on both sides. During wort cooling, the hot wort and the cooling medium flow countercurrently along the grooves in the form of turbulent flow through the pump. There are also something should be noted when using the heat exchanger of your brewery equipment.


 
①Before wort cooling, it is necessary to sterilize the wort side of the plate heat exchanger and the wort pipeline, means circulate with hot water above 80°C for not less than 30 minutes. When the wort cooling starts, the wort should be trasferred to fermentation tank after removed al of the remaining water in heat exchanger.
 
② During wort cooling, frequently check the inlet and outlet temperatures of the wort and refrigerant, adjust the flow through the valve in time to control the outlet temperature of the wort within the range of ±0.5°C, there should be no large fluctuations. When the wort cooling is completed, the wort in the pipeline should be removed by hot water.
 
③The cooling time of wort should be controlled within 60min. Excessive cooling time will affect the utilization rate of the rotary sedimentation tank and the quality of wort.
 
④ The plates of the heat exchanger should be disassembled and washed regularly, because the cold coagulation and hop resin in the wort will adhere to the plates, that will affect the heat exchange working efficiency. After the plate is disassembled, first soak it in 1% to 2% hot caustic water, then use a brush to clean the fouling, and then wash it with clean water.
 
⑤ The maximum working pressure of the plate heat exchanger generally at 1MPa, and there will be a pressure difference between the cooling water side and the wort side of the heat exchanger, and the normal working pressure is generally 0.2 ~ 0.4MPa. Excessive pressure difference will deform the plate and reduce the sealing performance of the gasket, so pay attention to control the pressure difference.
