Why do we use hop doser in brewery for dry hopping

There have several ways to do dry hopping in a brewery, a cheap upgrade is to finish it by hop doser. Many our customers are asking me to add hop doser into their brewery equipment list.
We also suggest they add a hop doser for their turnkey brewery projects.
 
After the wort/beer be cooled from heat exchanger, and transferred to fermentation vessel, in order to add beer flavor and aroma, we will do dry hopping, which extracted from hops.
 
So why do we use hop doser in brewery for dry hopping?
 
1. Pricing of brewery equipment hop doser
We have several options when it comes to dry hopping. For example, using a hop gun or hop rocket, these pieces of equipment all require significant investments.
 
Take 80L hop gun as example, we can add around 30kg hop pellets to a batch of beer, the cost around US$3000. It is a significant investment, for most breweries. We supplied 5L hop dozer only costs around US$400.
 
2. Easy to Use of brewery equipment hop doser. So how do we assemble the hop doser?
. Clean and sterilize the connection between doser and fermentation tank
. Connect the doser to fermentation tank by Tri-clamp
. Purge the hop doser with CO2, and ensure oxygen is removed. Add hops to the doser
. Purge the doser with CO2 again
. Add pressure to hop doser, we can read pressure by gauge, which is slight higher than fermentation pressure.
. Open the valve and hops will dump into fermentation tank
. Close the valve to the tank and release the pressure in the doser
If you want to add more hops in the tank, the operation procedure is same.
 
But when you ready to disassemble the hop doser, be sure the valve to fermentation tank is closed, and there no pressure inside of hop doser.


 
3. Safe to Use of brewery equipment hop doser.
The traditional way to do dry hopping is to open dry hoping end cap, dump hops into the tank, then we will close the tank quickly. There have a risk to result in hop volcano.
 
While brew masters will stand on the platform or ladder to operate, it is not safe. But a hop doser will eliminate the possibility of volcano. The tank will keep at pressurized station.

4. Avoid oxygen
Many brewers have concern about oxygen during dry hopping in a brewery.
But with a hop doser, the tank is never open to the atmosphere. So it can avoid oxygen. It always is a good thing in the long run.
