Automating the mashing process before an official brew day can greatly improve efficiency and consistency in brewing. Here's a general outline of how you can achieve this:

1. Automated Mash Tun Setup

1) Temperature Control: Install a temperature controller with a digital thermostat and a heating element in the mash tun. This will allow you to set the mash temperature accurately and maintain it throughout the process.

2) Automated Water Filling: Set up a solenoid valve connected to your water supply that can be controlled by a timer or a smart system to fill the mash tun with the correct amount of water at the desired temperature.

3) Grain Hopper & Auger System: Use a grain hopper with an auger system to automatically feed the milled grain into the mash tun. This can be connected to a timer or integrated into a smart system that starts the process at a predetermined time.

2. Smart Brewing Controllers

1) Programmable Controllers: Utilize a programmable logic controller (PLC) and programmed by Tiantai/TK Auto . These systems can be programmed to start the mash process at a specific time, control the temperature, and monitor the mash duration.

2) Recipe Integration: Integrate your brewing recipes into the controller. Many smart brewing systems allow you to upload or create recipes that automatically adjust mash temperatures, step times, and other parameters.

3. Remote Monitoring and Alerts

1) Sensors: Install temperature and flow sensors in your mash tun. These can provide real-time data to your smartphone or computer, allowing you to monitor the process remotely.

2) Automated Alerts: Set up automated alerts via SMS, email, or app notifications to inform you if the temperature goes out of range, if there’s an issue with water flow, or when the mash process is complete.

4. Integration with Brew Day

1) Pre-Mash Setup: The night before the brew day, load the grain into the hopper and fill the water reservoir. Set the system to start mashing early in the morning so that the mash is ready by the time you start your official brew day.

2) Sync with Brewing Software: Integrate it with your automation system to ensure all steps are aligned with your recipe.

5. Safety and Redundancy

1) Fail-Safes: Install fail-safes such as thermal cutoffs, pressure relief valves, and overflow sensors to prevent accidents in case of equipment failure.

2) Backup Power: Consider a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to keep the brewing system running in case of a power outage during the automation process.
This automation setup can help streamline the mashing process, ensuring that by the time you arrive on brew day, the mash is ready for the next steps, saving you time and effort while maintaining consistency in your brewing process.
