In last blog, we talked about how to protect wort transferring from blocking. In most micro breweries, this problem might not appear since the mash tun usually shares one same tank with lauter tun. But wort stuck is likely to happen when pumping wort from Lauter tun to Brew Kettle if the brewer can not control pumping speed very well. How to protect wort transferring from blocking when operating brewery equipment?
1.) Do not crush the malt too fine.
2.) Pump hot water to Lauter tun until it covers false bottom.
3.) Use grant or buffer tank for lautering. In this case, the wort flows from Lauter tun to Brew Kettle by gravity instead of pumping, which can avoid negative pressure forming in Lauter tun efficiently.
4.) The ratio of water and malt should not be very high. Otherwise, the grain bed will be too thick to lauter.
Friends, Provided you have more solutions or suggestions to avoid blocking happening when operating brewery equipment, we do appreciate if you would like to share with us. Your sharing would have more brewers be benefited.
