To keep your brewery in great shape for years to come, it is necessary to make regular maintenance for brewery equipment. There are some general maintenance practices that you should probably start, we put together a list of our suggestions for breweries. Let us know what you think. Are you already doing everything on the list?
Cooler Floor Cleaning
It is a good idea to clean your cooler floor as least once per month in a microbrewery. Since the cooler is likely to see a good amount of traffic between employees and delivery personnel, the floor can get quite dirty. Besides, there is a chance that you can get some bacteria growth as well. Where the cooler opens and closes, there can be some condensation that could lead to bacteria. You don’t want that happening, and you don’t want that getting tracked around your brewery.
To go a monthly cleaning, we can get rid of all the potential risks.
Clean and Sanitize Brewery Hoses
Although you probably are already doing this, it is worth a reminder. Hoses left uncleaned will grow bacteria when not sanitized regularly. In addition to the nasty stuff that can grow, moisture inside will also create some wear and tear on the actual hose and keep it from lasting for you long term. Finally, it will influence the sanitary level and beer quality.
Clean and Sanitize All Mechanical Tools
There are a lot of tools and pieces of brewery equipment that are used daily that you may not think to sanitize. When you have some off time, you should make sure that everything gets sanitized. Some of the things that are often missed include buckets, pitchers, wrenches, and pliers. These things should be disinfected after every use. If, for some reason, you don’t have the time to try to add it in as a standard operating procedure.
Brewhouse and Fermentation Tanks Cleaning
It should be most complicated work, we need to do daily or before and after brewing. The cleaning medium caustic and acid are normally used to clean the inside of the tank so that it can remove the scale and allow the caustic alkali to work more effectively. Besides, be sure to use hot water to flush the caustic alkali and ensure that all related pipes can be thoroughly flushed. You also need to check the drain, pump, and steam jacket every two weeks, which can help spot problems before major errors occur. If you need to perform manual cleaning, be sure to use softer metals for scrubbing. Harder metals will scratch the stainless steel and cause irreversible damage to the chromium oxide protective layer of the stainless steel.
Forgetting to sanitize a piece of equipment can leave a spot on a floor that turns into a bacterial mess. Just be aware of everything you use in a day and make sure that at the end of the day, it is back to a completely sanitized state.
No question maintaining a brewery is hard work. That is one reason why installing an easy to clean and qualified brewery equipment is so important.
