In spirit and alcohol production—whether for vodka, rum, whisky, gin, or traditional Baijiu—the mixing tank is one of the most essential components. It ensures that all ingredients are blended evenly, temperature is precisely controlled, and the final spirit achieves consistent flavour and aroma.

At Tiantai Brewtech co, we design and manufacture custom stainless steel spirit mixing tanks that combine traditional distillation principles with modern process control to meet the needs of both craft and commercial distilleries.

1. Structure of the Spirit Mixing Tank
Each tank is made of high-quality SUS304 or SUS316L stainless steel, ensuring hygiene, durability, and corrosion resistance.

A typical spirit mixing tank includes:

Tank body: Cylindrical vertical design with a conical or dished bottom for smooth discharge and easy cleaning.

Agitator system: Top-mounted or side-mounted, ensuring full circulation and uniform mixing of alcohol, water, flavouring materials, and additives.

Jacketed layer: For indirect heating or cooling, compatible with hot water, steam, or oil circulation systems.

Insulation layer: Polyurethane or rock wool insulation maintains temperature stability during mixing or maturation.

Auxiliary fittings: CIP spray ball, pressure gauge, thermometer, sight glass, and sampling valve.

All interior welds are polished to Ra ≤ 0.4μm, ensuring a smooth, sanitary surface.

2. Working Principle

The mixing process combines both mechanical agitation and thermal regulation:

The agitator creates a vortex flow that distributes flavouring agents, essential oils, or blending liquids evenly throughout the spirit.

The jacket heating system allows gentle and uniform heating—often through steam or hot water circulation—to enhance blending and remove unwanted volatiles.

The indirect heating method avoids localized overheating, maintaining aroma stability and product integrity.

When required, the system can also integrate with temperature sensors and variable frequency drives (VFD) to control both heat and agitation speed accurately.

3. Recommended Agitation Speed

Agitator speed depends on tank size and product viscosity:

For 200L–500L spirit mixing tanks, the ideal speed is 36–60 rpm.

Gentle mixing (around 36 rpm) is suitable for light blending or aroma infusion.

Higher speed (up to 60 rpm) helps dissolve or integrate heavier additives and flavouring agents.

A frequency converter (VFD) allows flexible adjustment for different recipes and product types.

4. Heating Options

Depending on your process, Tiantai offers several heating methods:

Steam heating: For smooth and uniform temperature distribution.

Hot water heating: Safer for low-temperature blending or preheating.

Thermal oil heating: For high-temperature and energy-efficient operations.

All systems are designed with pressure safety valves and temperature control units, ensuring reliable operation.

5. Advantages of Tiantai Spirit Mixing Tanks
